2k help

I want to decrease my split times, especially for 2k races. My strokes per minute is usually at a 19 average, but really high at the beginning. If I keep a relatively high spm throughout the race, will my split time go down by like about 10 seconds? I’m sitting at a 2:08 /500m and I want to bring it to a sub 8 minute 2k. Any other general tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
