Lack of OTW training

Hi Redditors…

I’ve been doing 95 percent of my training on the erg, with the rest as weights or going for runs. Steadily improving fitness with this approach. However, I rarely get to row on the water as I live in NYC, and going to the Pelham boathouse is difficult. However when I go visit my Dad in DC I get to row on the water with him.

I’m curious how well ergs translate to OTW fitness. If assuming my rowing form is okay, would I get totally smoked if I started training more seriously on the water?
