Foot cramps while erging at high rate

I’ve been SS’ing for a few weeks now, and recently I’ve decided to implement 1 high intensity 4x500m a week. I have trouble bringing the rate up past 28 without pulling myself up the slide with my feet. Anyway by the 3rd piece, my right arch on my foot dies and I have to lower the rate to get to the end.

I row in flat loafers, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Any advice?

Edit: does anyone actually do race pieces strapless?
