Dealing with cardiovascular drift?

Today’s SS was pretty typical for me. My plan was to stay under 131 bpm, which is the top of what I compute to be my UT2 band. I set a pace boat of 2:17, kept to that the whole piece, and accepted that I blew past my target HR.

What’s the best strategy going forward? Should I keep shooting for 2:17, and accept that I’ll go beyond UT2 before the piece is over? Or should I start out at 2:17 and reduce the pace mid-piece once I hit my target HR? Or should I try something slower from …read more
